Terry Nield - Class of 1965

Terry Lynn Nield, 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Nield, was accidentally killed about 3:30 p.m. Monday in a hopper at the gravel pit of William E. Nield and Sons, located about one mile south of Wardboro across the Bear River bridge and about 600 feet east of the Dingle road. Unbeknown to anyone, the boy was in the hopper when a load of gravel was dumped on him.

Kenneth E. Nield, a brother, missed the boy about three minutes after the load of gravel was dumped. Max Nield, another brother, and others joined Kenneth in removing gravel from the hopper. A physician was called from Montpelier who pronounced the boy dead.

Terry Lynn Nield, who graduated from the 8th grade last May, was born September 29, 1947 in Montpelier. He was ordained a Deacon October 4, 1959 by his father, and at the time of death was president of the Montpelier Third LDS Ward Deacons Quorum.

Besides his parents he is survived by four brothers and five sisters, Kenneth E. Nield and Max LaMar Nield, both of Montpelier; Mrs. A. R. (Gloria) Shannon of Pocatello; Mrs. Carol Esquibel, Mrs. Meri (LaNette) Roberts, Carl W. Nield, Belva Nield, Thomas Seth Nield and Maxine Nield, allf of Montpelier.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Montpelier Third-Fifth LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Philip Hulme of the Third Ward conducting. Matthews Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
