In Memory

Colleen Payne - Class of 1976

Colleen Payne Doran, 65, longtime resident of Blackfoot, Idaho, and new resident of Scott, Louisiana, passed away on October 23, 2023, in Lafayette, Louisiana, after a brief but devastating illness caused by the West Nile virus. Colleen was born to John C. Payne and Alta Erickson Payne in Montpelier, Idaho, on November 16, 1957. She was raised in Paris, Idaho, and graduated from Bear Lake High School in 1976.

Colleen was a career registered nurse and worked primarily at State Hospital South, the Behavioral Health Center at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, and most recently on the New Leaf unit at Bingham Memorial Hospital.

While they both worked at State Hospital South, Colleen met Clarence Doran, born in Pocatello, Idaho, to Clifford and Elnora Thomas Doran. Clarence and Colleen were married on August 30, 1986, and they made their home in Blackfoot.

Colleen is survived by five children: stepdaughters Jennifer Godinez (Jorge) and Elisha Taylor (David), both of Blackfoot, whom she loved as her own; Michael Doran (Ixel Haseltine) of Lafayette, Louisiana; David Doran (Heather Simons) of Pocatello; and Camille Doran Call of Pocatello. Colleen is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, as well as five siblings: Clifford Payne of Pocatello; Lloyd Payne (Lenny) of Twin Falls, Idaho; Norma Palmer (Val, dec.) of North Logan, Utah; Michael Payne (Kristin) of Pocatello; and Merrill Payne (Jackie) of Chubbuck, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Clarence, her parents, and her brother Ross Payne (Christine, dec.).

A celebration of life is tentatively planned for the early summer of 2024 in Southeast Idaho, and details will be forthcoming.
