In Memory

Denise Hemmert (Green) - Class of 1974

On the evening of September 6, 2023, Denise Green, (A.K.A. Helen) passed peacefully surrounded by family at the Bear Lake Skilled Nursing Facility.

Denise was born to Hervin and Shirley Hemmert on March 14,1956. She grew up in the Bear Lake Valley and graduated from Bear Lake High School. She continued her education and graduated with her associate degree from Salt Lake Community Business College. After graduating She settled in Bear Lake with Art Green. Together they had five children. Tawnya, Krista, Derrick, Devin, and Jesse. They were married for 25 years and continued their friendship up to Denise's passing.

As a young girl she had a love for reading and learning. Throughout her school years she got straight A's. She was a typical farm girl, but her favorite job was mowing hay. Her senior year in high school she entered the Bear Lake Beauty Pageant and won Miss Congeniality.

Throughout her prime years she had multiple career opportunities that she excelled in. They led her to being a secretary for home health, a realtor, professional canvas sewing, and her greatest accomplishment was sales. Friends said, "She could sell ice to an Eskimo."

One of her favorite past times was singing. She had a beautiful voice and could harmonize skillfully. She sang at churches, weddings, celebrations, and funerals.

Denise had a long-term relationship with Jim Hooker and resided in Preston. They enjoyed meeting new people and making friends while traveling on their road trip adventures.  In her free time she enjoyed crocheting, quilting, solving crosswords and sudoku. There were many times Denise and her sisters would put a 1000-piece puzzle together in one day.

The family legacy of the Bear Lake Hot Springs was a big part of her entire life. She spent many summers teaching swimming lessons, working in the campground, kitchen, and helping customers.  There were many memories with family and friends while camping & sitting around a campfire.

Denise was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The last couple of years she spent preparing to attend the temple to receive her own ordinance.

Denise loved her kids, grandkids, and family. She will be greatly missed.
