Larry Dayton - Class of 1960

Larry Delbert Dayton was born December 27, 1941 in Dingle, the son of Ellen Sparks Dayton Humbug and the late Delbert C. Dayton, who was electrocuted September 26, 1961, when the combine he was driving on a ranch near Cokeville came in contact with an electric wire.

Larry was a member of the LDS Church and was a Montpelier High School senior in the class of 1960 when he died on October 31, 1959 following injuries suffered in a car accident.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his step-father, Ted Hamburg, and paternal grand-mother, Mrs. Lawrence King of Sharon. Services were held at 1 PM Wednesday in the Dingle LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Clifford J. Skinner conducting. The prelude and postlude wore played by Mrs. Aida Oakey, and the family prayer was offered by Alfred D Oakey. The invocation was by Calvert T Lewis. Song "I Have Read of a Beautiful City," quartet comprised of Mr Oakey, Stanley Thurber, Mrs. Jean Keetch and Mrs. Joan Spencer. Remarks, Bishop Skinner, Vocal solo, "Hold Thou My Hand," Max Haddock, accompanied by Mrs Lester Armatige. Speaker, Bishop J. Clarence Lindsay. Vocal solo, "Going Home," Mr. Haddock. Speaker Bishop J. Warren Sirrene. Song, "Sometime We'll Understand," quartet. Benediction, Golden Keetch. Interment was in the Dingle City Cemetery in Dingle, Idaho.

He died at 4 AM Saturday. October 31, 1959, following injuries suffered in a car accident that occurred at 12 55 PM Friday, about two miles east of Montpelier on US Highway 89 above the Jesse Orchard ranch home. Patrolman Jerry King. Idaho State Police. said the car at the time of accident was being driven by the fatally injured youth, and that riding in the front seat were Carol Bradley, 18, of Montpelier. and Sharon Wheelock,18, of Paris, and in the back seat Delwin Sparks, 20, of Dingle, home on leave from the US Navy, Miss Wheelock suffered neck injuries and fractured ribs. and Miss Bradley sustained a fractured pelvis and back injuries Mr Sparks was treated for a minor cut on his arm. All were taken to the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital. Patrolman King said that the car was being driven west and got out of control on the curve due to speed. The vehicle crossed the road to the left or south shoulder, then cut across the highway, hitting the north embankment. At this point the driver was apparently thrown out and run over by the car. which then skidded back across the road to the south side of the highway, coming to rest in the borrow pit and headed to the east.
