Elaine Dunford (Elison) - Class of 1944

Elaine Dunford Elison, 76, of Blackfoot passed away June 9, 2003, at the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello from cancer. She was born August 13, 1926 in Bloomington to Thomas Jefferson and Ruth Dora Hulme Dunford. She was the fourth in a family of eight children. She attended elementary school in Bloomington, spent one year in Montpelier High School with the class of 1944 and graduated from Fielding High School in Paris. She attended Utah State University, Ricks College and Idaho State University, where she graduated with a bachelor of arts degree an elementary education She taught school for 21 years and was a dedicated, caring teacher, loved by her colleagues and students and was also an excellent homemaker. She enjoyed her membership and association in Delta Kappa Gamma, as well as her affiliation as a member of Daughters of Utah Pioneers. On June 8, 1949, she married Lewis C. Elison in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Most of their 54 years of marriage were spent in Blackfoot. She was a member of the Blackfoot Eleventh Ward and had served in many leadership and teaching positions. She served an LDS Church Service Mission with her husband at the Family History Center in Salt Lake City for 21 months. They also served together as ordinance workers at the Idaho Falls Temple. She is survived by her husband, Lewis, of Blackfoot; six children, Sandra (Doug) Elison of Burley, Michael (Marsha) Elison and John (Sandy) Elison of Blackfoot, Andrew (Delena) Elison and Todd Elison of Idaho Falls and Mark (Rachel) Elison of Murray; 17 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; six brothers and sisters. She was buried in the Groveland Cemetery in Blackfoot, Idaho.
