In Memory

Nondas Poulsen (Izatt Ricks) - Class of 1946

After living a rich, full life of 89 years, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Jan. 28, 2018, in Hyde Park, Utah, surrounded by her children.

Nondas was born May 21, 1928, the fourth of five children to Kenneth Poulsen and Edith Passey Poulsen, in Liberty, Idaho. She attended school in her youth in Montpelier, Idaho, making many dear friends. The family moved to Logan, Utah, just prior to her senior year of high school, allowing her to attend and graduate from Logan High in 1946. She was very well liked and made many new friends. Her favorite subject was English.

Nondas met Boyd C. Izatt of Benson, Utah, on a blind date while he was on leave from the U.S. Navy. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, they were married Aug. 15, 1947. They were later sealed, together with their children, for time and all eternity in the Logan LDS Temple on May 18, 1964.

When her children were older, Nondas was employed by First Security Bank as a teller and later by Cache Valley Select Sires as a secretary.

Nondas and Boyd lived and raised their five children in Hyde Park, Utah, making lifelong friends in a small community and neighborhood where life was simple. She cherished having many of the same neighbors for over 60 years. Mom adored her grandchildren and loved each of us unconditionally. She loved family gatherings and prepared food and fun for all of her extended family. She handed down many recipes to her family, one of the favorites being her famous cinnamon roll cookies, which we have nicknamed "Nondas cookies."

Boyd and Nondas loved camping and going on long road trips in the Western U. S. and Canada; they also enjoyed their winters in Yuma, Arizona, in their truck and trailer with her brother and his wife. Nondas had a strong testimony of her Savior Jesus Christ and served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the Primary, Relief Society and also served as an ordinance worker in the temple.

Following the death of her husband Boyd in 1997, Nondas lived alone for 10 years. She dated and married a longtime family friend, Elmer Ricks, on March 8, 2008, and lived in Perry, Utah, until his passing in April 19, 2017. Also preceding her in death are her parents; brothers Blair, Russell, Don and Jack; sister Maxine; daughter Sherry Barker and infant son Steven.

Mom is survived by her children, sons, Scott (Kris), North Logan; Alan (Pat), Tremonton; daughters Mary (Charlie Davis), St George; and JoAnn (Blaine Andersen), Hyrum; and son-in-law Garth Barker, Logan; 22 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Beth Poulsen and Grace Poulsen.

A heartfelt thanks and gratitude go to those who cared for Mom so sweetly at Autumn Care and all those special friends who visited her over the past several months.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at noon in the Hyde Park chapel, 65 E. Center St., Hyde Park. There will be a viewing from 10 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services, with Bishop Hale of the Hyde Park 5th Ward officiating. Interment will be at Hyde Park Cemetery.
