Florence Elenora Campbell Matthews died in her home on November 17, 2011. She was born to Florence Eleanor Wesbecker and George Robert Campbell on February 24, 1926 in Pocatello, Idaho. She spent her childhood going to schools in Pocatello, Idaho and Jeffersonville, Indiana. Then she moved to Montpelier, Idaho, where she attended school from fourth grade through her junior year of high school. She moved back to Jeffersonville, Indiana were she graduated from high school early due to World War II. She was awarded a scholarship to study art, however she attended nursing school and worked various jobs in Louisville, Kentucky.

While living in Louisville Florence corresponded with Darrell Hymas Matthews, a sweetheart she met in Montpelier, Idaho. Near the end of Darrell's service in the Army Air Corp, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 26, 1945. 

After Darrell completed military service at the end of World War II, they moved to Logan, Utah to attend Utah State University. After Darrell's graduation, they moved to Castle Dale where Darrell was County Agent and where Florence was involved with his work and raising their family. They moved to Cedar City where Darrell ran the Experimental Station Farm for Utah State University and taught college courses at the Branch Agricultural College, now known as Southern Utah University. 

Florence attended the College of Southern Utah. She graduated from CSU in 1957 where she gave the Valedictorian address, representing those receiving a Bachelor of Science degree. Her degree was in elementary education, with a minor in art.

They spent three years in Bolivia and three years in Ecuador where Darrell was working for U.S.A.I.D. on a contract administered by Utah State University. She taught at schools in Bolivia and Ecuador. 

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she taught Primary, Sunday School, and was active in Relief Society. 

Florence was preceded in death by her husband Darrell Hymas Matthews and her Brother Wiley Milton Campbell. She is survived by her children Dee Ann Matthews O'Brien, Jeanne Matthews Hunt, and Drew Samuel Matthews, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and several grandchildren who she adopted in her heart.

There will be a viewing from 9:30 am to 10:30 am on Monday November 21, 2011 at the Cedar 9th Ward Chapel at 256 S 900 W Cedar City, Utah. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 at the Cedar City Cemetery.
