Lund Arnell - Class of 1947

Lund Arnell, 34, active civic leader, was found dead Friday, February 8, 1963, at about 5 p.m., in a coke bin at Monsanto Chemical Company plant near Soda Springs. Dr. E. B. Webb, Pocatello pathologist, conducted an autopsy Saturday to determine cause of death. Results are expected to be available within a few days. The son of Swan Oscar and Mary Leona Lindsay Arnell, he was born at Dingle, December 17, 1928. He attended elementary school at Dingle and two years at Montpelier High School with the class of 1947, before accompanying his family to Salt Lake City for temporary residence where he also attended high school. From 1950 to 1952 he was in the armed forces, and was a leader of an LDS group. On being released from the service, he began his employment at the Monsanto Chemical plant. He and Dorothy Aileen Miller were married March 20, 1951 in the LDS Temple, Salt Lake City. They lived a few years at Soda Springs, where he was active in the Mutual Improvement Association. Mr. Arnell was an active member of the Jaycees for five years, both he and Mrs. Arnell having been charter members. He held various offices in the organization including president, state director, and at the time of death was the Idaho State Jaycee profit making chairman, necessitating much travel. He was a member of the local Reserve Unit for the past five and one halt years and held many responsible positions. An E6, he held the rank of acting First Sergeant. He was active in the American Legion; served as president of the Bear Lake Bowman's Association; and was an ardent hunter and sportsman. Besides his widow he is survived by two daughters, Jannine and Linette; parents, of Dingle; two brothers, Elwood O. Arnell of Montpelier and William Bruce Arnell of Dingle, presently serving on a mission for the LDS Church in the Great Lakes area; and.a sister, Mrs. Frank (Lillian) Bolton of Conda. Services were conducted by Bishop Philip Hulme of the Third ward in the Third-Fifth ward chapel Tuesday at 1 PM. He was buried in the Dingle Cemetery in Dingle, Idaho.
