Homer Phelps - Class of 1918

Funeral services were conducted in the Second Ward Tuesday for Homer Stull Phelps, 72, of Garland, Utah, who died December 20 in a Salt Lake hospital. He was born in Montpelier, January 10, 1896, the son of Ezra James and Jane Jennefer Roberts Phelps. He was a member of the Montpelier High School class of 1918, however he did not graduate. He married Mary Ellen Cole August, 1919 and was later divorced. He married Irma Talbot in August 1941 in Las Vegas.

Mr. Phelps was a railroad worker in the Las Vegas and Logan areas.

He is survived by his widow of Garland; sons and daughter, Royal S. Phelps of Reno, Homer O. Phelps of Salt Lake City; Thomas E. Phelps and Mrs. Richard Ohrn of Las Vegas; David Phelps of Bountiful; Hardy L. Phelps of Windrow Rock, Arizona; 23 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Reed Phelps, Blue Diamond, Nevada; Hugh Phelps, Laurel, Montana; Hawley Phelps and Mrs. James (Naomi) Jensen of Montpelier; a half-brother, Lynn E. Phelps, Redlands, California.

Hawley Phelps gave the prayer at the mortuary and Merrill Lewis offered the invocation. The obituary was given by Bishop W. D. Arnell; vocal solo, “In the Garden,” Mrs. Waldo Andersen accompanied by Mrs. Preston Michaelson; speaker, Roger Jensen; vocal solo, “Goodnight Till Tomorrow,” Mrs. Howard Tolley, accompanied by Cheryl Tolley; benediction by Edward Grosjean. Mrs. T. D. Bird played the prelude and postlude. 

The grave in the Montpelier cemetery was dedicated by Earl Stephens. Pallbearers were Grove Phelps, Maurice Beck, Ivan Phelps, Wilmer Phelps, Russell Bridges, and John Schmid. Arrangements were by Matthews Mortuary.
