Ruth Isabelle Oliver Teuscher died on December 28, 2015 surrounded by family. She was born on January 18, 1920 in Montpelier Idaho to Floyd P. and Winnifred (Crawford) Oliver. Ruth was an excellent student who took pride in her academic achievements, and band participation.
She married Marvin H. Teuscher on May 31, 1941. They had three daughters, Karen, Susan and Mary K. After WWII, Ruth and Marv settled in American Fork, Utah. Initially Ruth stayed home with their daughters, but eventually she began working with Marv. She maintained all the accounting records for their four companies. Together they built successful careers, respect among their peers in the business community, and a rewarding life.
Ruth and Marv loved to travel. They went with the NECA group to Europe, Australia, Hawaii and New Zealand. They were longtime University of Utah season ticket holders, and honored by the Crimson Club as Super Fans. Their two favorite trips were to the Final Four in 1998, and the Sugar Bowl in 2008. They proudly displayed a bright red “U” in their window for over 30 years. As a faithful Utah fan, Ruth was never short on opinions about the coaches, the players or the band.
Ruth volunteered at Forbes Elementary for several years. She remembered fondly all her young readers. She traveled to Switzerland at age 91, and she rode for miles in a four wheel drive truck to see her grandson’s new foals. Even though her eyesight had failed, she continued to attend great grandchildrens’ ski races, clogging, school programs and dance recitals clapping with pure enthusiasm and joy. She stayed active until the last three weeks of her life.
Among Ruth’s dearest treasures was her membership in the American Fork Presbyterian Church. She taught classes, organized events, and was chairman of the worship committee. She was the secretary/treasurer, a deacon and an elder. During the restoration of the church building, she researched and wrote an extensive history of the 100 year old building. The Friday “Prayer Group”, became the delight of her week after Marv died.
Ruth remained constant to her beliefs. She was always a lady. She hated gum, poor grammar, bad manners and swearing. She expected good grades, good posture and above all appropriate behavior. She loved with all her heart and made certain that each of her children and their children had her unwavering love and support.
She is survived by daughters Susan (Richard Dunlap), Mary K. (Rod) Tiede; Grandchildren Todd (Lynn) Porter, Anne (Trevin) Clark, Jamie (Steve) Bennion, Katherine (Judge) Evans, Stacie (Alonzo) Van Tassell, Kenzie (Mandel) Kaufmann, and Landon (Annie) Hall. Greatgrandchildren Shelby, Mason Marvin, Teya, Sidney, Gavin, Bode, Henry, Hayden Marv, Alexandra, Sunny, Myles, Zoson, Samantha, S.J., Amalia. She is also survived by her sister Barbara Larsen. Preceded in death by her husband Marvin Harding Teuscher, daughter Karen Porter, her parents, two brothers and four sisters.
The family will greet friends on Sunday January 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Anderson Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork Utah. A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, January 4th at 11:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church, 75 North 100 East, American Fork. Internment will take place at the American Fork Cemetery in a private service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Presbyterian Church “roof” fund in her memory.
