Sandra Joan Smith - Class of 1955

Sandra Joan Smith, of Meridian, passed away on September 22, 2015 at home surrounded by her loved ones. Sandra was born in Montpelier, Idaho on August 3, 1937 to Delbert and Nelda Smith. She was the youngest of three children. Sandra grew up in Montpelier and was active in tap dance, piano, and her church. She graduated from Montpelier High School in 1955 and went on to serve her LDS mission in the Eastern States Mission in New York. After her mission, Sandra and her sister Dorothy moved to Salt Lake City and went to work for Mountain Bell where she worked until she retired. Sandra traveled all over the world, and out of all of her travels one of her favorite places was Disneyland. Sandra was a caregiver to her father who had MS, to her mother in her later years and her brother-in-law who was disabled veteran. She loved the theater, attending numerous plays and musicals. Sandra was very active in the LDS church serving many callings over the years. Her favorite calling was playing the piano in the primary for the children.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her two sisters, Dorothy Bolton and Nada Nelson; and three brother-in-laws, Earl Wallentine, Paul Bolton and Jay Nelson. She is survived by her nephews and nieces, Steve Nelson of Nampa, Jalene Kindred of Meridian, Gary Nelson (Liz) of Boise, Kellie Overall (Rick) of Nampa, Scott Nelson (Kelly Davis) of Nampa and numerous other great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25 at the South LDS Stake Center located at 6575 S. Eagle Road, Meridian. Family will greet friends from 10:00-10:45 a.m.prior to the service at the church. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the Montpelier Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Relyea Funeral Chapel.
