Georgia Lee Mouritsen (Hayden) - Class of 1945

Georgia Lee Mouritsen was born in Bennington, Idaho March 2, 1928 the daughter of Homer and June Caldwell Mouritsen.  She was the first born and her proud father rode his horse around the community announcing her birth.  She loved to read and recite poetry.  She attended schools in Montpelier and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1945.  She had a beautiful voice and sang solos in school and church.  She was also a member of the National Honor Society.  After graduation from high school she went to Salt Lake City where she worked as a secretary in a real estate and mortgage office.  It was there she met William Wood and they were married  October 25, 1947.  They lived in Salt Lake City where their son Jeffrey was born.  They were subsequently divorced.  Later Georgia met Ben Hayden and they were married in Las Vegas September 5, 1954.  Ben adopted Jeff and they were soon blessed with a daughter, Jamie. Georgia had a keen desire to continue her education so she enrolled in the University of Utah where she graduated cum laude in 1965.  She taught English and literature at Olympus High School and was influential in the education of the youth of Utah.  She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ and taught cultural refinement in Relief Society for several years inspite of her health issues.  She suffered for seven years with a brain tumor.  She loved nothing more than family gatherings.  Georgia and Ben spent many winters in Palm Springs, Guadalajara, Mexico and Hawaii.  She passed away February 16, 1980 at the Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake.
