Laurel Lindsay - Class of 1951

Laurel William Lindsay, 83, of Montpelier, Idaho passed away July 10th, 2015, surrounded by his family, at Bear Lake Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Laurel was born on April 26th, 1932 to Jessie Seymour Lindsay and Evelyn Howell Lindsay in Fish Haven, Idaho.

Laurel grew up in Dingle, Idaho where he attended grade school and then graduated from Montpelier High School. He attended the University of Moscow and later graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Industrial Engineering.

While in high school he met Marlene Kunz, the love of his life and they were later married in the LDS Temple in Logan, Utah.

They were blessed with four children, Tracy (Sheila) Lindsay, Laurie (Mike) Buck, Shauna Cole and Jeff (Cindy) Lindsay.

Laurel served in the United States Army for 2 years. Upon his honorable discharge and graduating from college, he worked for many years in Safety Industry. His jobs have taken him to many places across the United States, then retiring from Thiokol in Brigham City, Utah.

Laurel and Marlene owned and operated La-Marel’s Valley Inn in Montpelier, Idaho for 25 years. He was a wonderful cook and enjoyed serving the people of Bear Lake Valley. He was famous for his fried chicken, which was served to the Tauck Tours that stopped daily at the Inn.

Laurel served in many church callings throughout his life with the most recent being in the Branch Presidency at the Skilled Nursing Facility in Montpelier. He so loved the residents and enjoyed serving them.

Laurel and Marlene spent many winters in St. George, Utah but always loved coming home to the valley. He enjoyed working in the yard and loved keeping it beautiful. He loved spending time with family and friends. He relished the time when each great grandchild got their special time with “Papa”.

Laurel is survived by his wife Marlene, his children and spouses, 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, step brothers Ben and David Lindsay and stepsister Percilla.

He was preceded in death by his parents Seymour and Evelyn, stepmother Elise, brother McKay and granddaughter Shantell Brooke Lindsay.  

A viewing will be held Tuesday July 14th, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Schwab-Matthews Mortuary in Montpelier, Idaho.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday July 15th, 2015 at 12 noon at the Montpelier South Stake Center in Montpelier, Idaho, preceded by a viewing from 10:00-11:45 am.

Interment will will take take place at the Montpelier City Cemetery.
