Richard Hughes - Class of 1938

He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1938.  He served in the US Army Air Corps.

Richard William "Dick" Hughes, 66, died Dec. 17, 1986 at Bear Lake Memorial Hospital in Montpelier. He was born Nov. 1, 1920 in Montpelier, to William H. and Johannah Bienz Hughes. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1938 and later received degrees from the University of Utah and the University of Washington. He was an outstanding running back in football at Whittier College in California, where he attended school. He taught school for several years, worked for Commonwealth Electric and then worked for several years for the Union Pacific Railroad. He enjoyed gardening, golf and was an avid reader. He was a member of the LDS Church. He is survived by one sister, Mrs Clarence (Helen) Sorensen, Montpelier; two nieces, Mrs Forrest (Virginia) Jacobsen, Montpelier; Mrs Robert (Cathlene) Ellsworth, Sunset, Ut.; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one niece. Funeral services were Saturday in the Matthews Mortuary Chapel. Burial was in the Montpelier Cemetery
