Richard Thompson - Class of 1939

Richard Frank Thompson 1921 ~ 2008 Father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather departed this life peacefully, January 7, 2008.Born July 3, 1921, in Bloomington, Idaho to Franklin Lorenzo and Elizabeth Beck Thompson. He married Alta L. Hansen, October 22, 1946 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He lived in Idaho, Wyoming, Utah and most recently in Riverton and Draper, Utah. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Draper River View 1st Ward. He served in various organizations of the Church and was a High Priest. He served in the US Army Signal Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After 41 years, he retired from Union Pacific Railroad as Superintendent of the Signal Shops. He was certified in TV and Radio Repair. His favorite things were his family, the Gospel, lapidary and silver work, art, gardening, and he always had an immaculate yard. He enjoyed working along side of his wife as they taught their family the value of hard work. He is survived by his five children: Nola (Charlie) Hall, Salem; Merrill (Irene) Thompson, Clearfield; Julia Thompson, Draper; Debra (Brad) Frehner, Spanish Fork; Tony (Karen) Thompson, Clinton; 28 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren with one on the way; brother Cyril (Doris) Thompson, and sister LaRaine (Randy) Vaught. He was preceded in death by his wife in March 2004, his parents, and four sisters: Nedra Payne, Effie Hoopes, Barbara Bates, and Donanne Gleave; one grandson Tanner Thompson, and one great-grandson. In lieu of flowers, donate in his name to Primary Children's Medical Center or the LDS Perpetual Education fund. Spend time with your family in memory of him. Funeral services will be held Sat. January 12, 2008 at 12 noon at the Draper River View 1st Ward Chapel, 11420 S. 700 W. Draper, Utah. Friends may call from 10-11:30 a.m. at the chapel. Interment services will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Provo City Cemetery, 610 S. State Street, Provo, Utah. Military Honors will be accorded by VFW District 4 Honor Guard.
