George Parker - Class of 1934

G. Elwood Parker, beloved Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, 91, passed away peacefully at the Twin Falls Care Center, on Tuesday, March 11, 2008. Elwood was born Oct. 9, 1916, in Liberty, Idaho, to his parents, George Henry Parker and Jemima Ann Alsop. He completed his basic education in southeastern Idaho.

Elwood joined the Army in March of 1942 and served during World War II in the First Special Service Force for 2 1/2 years. While on leave, Elwood spotted the love of his life, Emma Gilbert, who was teaching school in Wardboro, Idaho. Elwood and Emma were married in the Logan Temple on March 19, 1943. They were the parents of six children, Blane G. Parker, deceased; Susan Parker Vermillion of Lubbock, Texas; Myron G. Parker of Twin Falls, Idaho; Laureen Parker Groom, deceased; Kelly G. Parker of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Tim G. Parker of Hansen, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, wife, one son, and one daughter.

He is survived by two sisters and one brother, four children, 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Elwood was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many positions and callings. He loved to dance, garden, fish and hunt. He was proud to be an American and to have served his country. He was active in Scouting and enjoyed helping young men achieve their Scouting awards. He was an accomplished finish carpenter and took pride in his work.

A viewing will be held at the Buhl LDS Church, 1001 Fair St. on Saturday, March 15, beginning at 10 a.m. followed by services at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the West End Cemetery, Buhl. Arrangements are being handled by Farmer Funeral Chapel.
