Kathryn Stephens (Jensen) - Class of 1919

Kathryn Stephens Jensen, age 90, died Wednesday, June 12, 1991.

On a peaceful Sabbath morning, September 30, 1900, she was born in Bennington, Idaho to George E. and Winnifred Rebecca Wright Stephens, the sixth in a family of seven children.She spent her childhood and young adult life in Bear Lake Valley--enjoying life to the fullest. She graduated from Montpelier High School and attended Pocatello Idaho Technical Institute certifying to be a teacher. She began her teaching career at age 18.

On June 25, 1924, she married Arel Isaac Jensen in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, moving to Chicago, Illinois to live as he completed his education for doctor of dentistry. They established a practice in Driggs, Idaho where she assisted her husband as his dental assistant. In 1932, Arel was elected to the Idaho Legislature resulting in a move to Boise, Idaho--living there for 20 years. Kathryn has also lived in Mesa, Arizona and has made her home in the Salt Lake Valley in Utah since 1958.

Services in the LDS Church, to her community and genealogical research was her life's work and love. She has taught in all of the organizations of the LDS Church, served as ward organist and was YWMIA and Relief Society counselors and presidents. She served a stake mission. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, American Legion Auxiliary, and World and Utah Genealogical societies.

Kathryn is survived by a son, Kirk S. Jensen and wife, Camille; daughter, Laree Cuthrell and husband, Richard; daughter-in-law, Glenna Jensen; ten grandchildren who though she was the best Grandma ever, David Arel and Luke Stephen Jensen, Terri England, Cherie Yates, Tamara Lemon, Tina and Stephen Jensen, Kathleen, Ilene, Jeannette and Brenda Cuthrell; 13 great-grandchildren survive and many nieces and nephews who at times lived with her in her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Arel I. Jensen; son, George A. Jensen; five brothers; one sister, and one great-granddaughter, her namesake--Kathryn.

Kathryn lived a life of progression and joy, seeking celestial glory. She said of herself, "My progenitors have not left me worldly wealth, I am the recipient of untold treasures." As she finishes her work here in mortality, her loved ones are comforted in the knowledge that she has earned the blessing given to her. "Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord with your companion and your loved and dear ones and receive that happy crown that you have so ably earned while in mortality."

Funeral services will be held Monday, 10:00 a.m., at the West Valley 4th Ward, 3985 South 3150 West. Friends may call Sunday, 6-8 p.m. at the McDougal Golden Rule Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and Monday, at the church, 9 to 9:40 a.m. Interment will be Tuesday, 11 a.m., at the Cloverdale Cemetery in Boise, Idaho.
