Vera Olsen (McFarland) - Class of 1929

Vera G. McFarland, 88, of Nampa, died on Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at a Caldwell care home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 27, 1999, at the Smith Building, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bishop Jerry Christensen will officiate. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell. Services are under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.

Vera G. McFarland was born on July 31, 1910, the daughter of James Christian and Eiza Olsen, in Ovid, Idaho, a small community near Montpelier. She was reared and educated in the Montpelier area, graduating from Montpelier High School in 1929. She married Blair McFarland on April 25, 1932, in Salt Lake City, UT, and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on May 28, 1954. Following their marriage they made their home in Montpelier, later moving to Pocatello. In 1942 they moved to Nampa.

Vera was employed at the Nampa School District for 28 years where she was the hot lunch supervisor. She was a very active member of the LDS Church and was currently a member of the Nampa 1st Ward. She had also been involved in the Nampa Senior Citizens Bowling League, Good Sams Travel Club and a couple of different pinochle clubs.

Vera is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Vernette McFarland, Spingfield, VA; daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Darwin Simmons, Nampa; two brothers, Evan Olsen, Montpelier, ID, and Lyle Olsen, Pocatello, ID; a sister, Norma Bates, Pocatello, ID; 9 grand children; Jeff Simmons, Julie Reid, Brent Simmons, Gregg Simmons, Steve Simmons, Janae Everton, Beth Bertonneau, Ed McFarland and John McFarland; 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harold; and her husband in 1982.

Friends may call at Alsip Funeral Chapel today from 2 to 6:30 p.m. The family will greet friends at the Alsip Chapel tonight from 6:30 to 8:30, and at the church on Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m.
