In Memory

Denton Johnson - Class of 1953

Denton Riley Johnson of Bountiful, Utah died November 14, 2003 after a year long battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter, ReNae Ellis (William); sons, Dale (Charlene), Dee, Brad (Catherine), Carl, Vaun (LeAnn), Darin (Sarah); brothers, Duane and Arthur; 24 cherished grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife (Doris); father (Hiram); mother (Loe); and his sister (Verdean). Janet has eight children and together they have 45 grandchildren. He is now free from his pain and reunited with his wife of 45 years who preceded him in death by nearly five years.

He was born at home in Georgetown, Idaho on April 3, 1935. He was taller than most of his peers and played basketball growing up. We like to tell people that he played basketball for GEORGETOWN. As a child, he took an interest in automobiles and machinery and taught himself many skills as a mechanic. Before age 8 he was driving a farm tractor, scooting down on the seat to reach the pedals. At age 12, he took apart an automobile engine and put it back together. This became his main vocation in life as he became a master mechanic and worked to support his family. He married Doris Crane in January 1953 and together they raised seven children.

He learned and practiced a strong work ethic from his family as they worked on the wheat and hay farm in Idaho. He developed many skills including mechanics, welding, carpentry, plumbing, electrical and cement finishing. He was often called on to lend these skills to family, friends and neighbors.

He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ and served in many church positions. In July 2001, he married Janet Allington. Together they served as missionaries for the LDS church in the California, Arcadia mission from January 2002-July 2003. He had a great love for his wife, children and grandchildren and will be missed.

We would like to celebrate his life and the opportunity that each of us has enjoyed to be privileged to share time and experiences with him. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday November 18 at the Bountiful 25th Ward, 600 E. 1500 S, Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, Nov 17, at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main, and 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be at the Herriman Cemetery.
