In Memory

Matt Lewis - Class of 1976

Cedar City- Matt Thomas Lewis died of natural causes at his home in Cedar City, Utah, November 15, 2014. He was born January 7, 1958 in Montpelier, Idaho to Merrill and Ramona Lewis. He grew up in the Bear Valley and was the youngest of five children. Matt was known for his ability to entertain.

He enjoyed creative practical jokes and could turn his life experiences into stories that would keep family and friends well amused with his humor and quick wit. His passion was definitely golf. He was known as an outstanding player. Matt attended Dixie State University and Brigham Young University and had made learning, acquiring new skills and education a lifelong endeavor. He especially enjoyed the history of politics with its intrigue. His first job was in retail sales.

Later he became a skilled mechanic for the Passap Knitting machine and still later, an excellent massage therapist. Matt was a deeply compassionate person with a generous spirit. He was an exemplary Christian, always ready to offer a helping hand. As a taxi driver he would be known to pay the fare of a passenger who was out of cash and low on luck but in need of a ride.

Two brothers, Kent and Bryce; and two sisters, Merrillyn and Kiera survive Matt. He was a thoughtful and much loved son, brother, and uncle. He will be much missed. To honor Matt and celebrate the gift of his life, a memorial service will be held at 3:00 in the afternoon of Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at St. Jude’s Episcopal Church on 70 N 200 W in Cedar City, Utah. Matt was a faithful member of St. Jude’s Church for years and considered his associates there to have been a great blessing in his life. Interment will be in the Montpelier, Idaho Cemetery.
