Leroy Stevens - Class of 1930

Leroy Alvin Stevens was born February 7, 1913 in Bennington, Idaho, the son of Alvin Elmer and Martha Agnes Madsen Stevens.  He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1930. He married Murial Dalrymple January 19, 1942 in Montpelier. They were later divorced. He married Edith Ashley December 16, 1963, in Pocatello. She died March 5, 1970.  He died Thursday January 20, 1977 at Caribou Memorial rest home in Soda Springs, Idaho after a lengthy illness. He was employed as a fireman for Union Pacific Railroad May 5, 1936. He was promoted to engineer June 20, 1941. Survivors include a son, Nyel Stevens, Seattle, Wash.; and two brothers, Leon K., Salt Lake.City, and Lowell E., Pocatello. Funeral services were held Monday at the Matthews Mortuary Chapel. Interment was in the Montpelier City Cemetery with Sherman Burgoyne, Archie Homer, Lynn Perkins, Clarence Sorenson, Donavan Stephens and Grant Barkdull as pallbearers. Dedication of the grave was by Gene Passey. Bishop Boyd Smart conducted the services. The invocation was by LaVere King and the benediction by Lawrence Roberts. The obituary was presented by Bishop Boyd Smart and the speaker was Alfred Jensen. Max Haddock sang "Abide With Me" and Ruth Kay Andersen sang "The Lord's Prayer."
