Florence Berrey - Class of 1935

Florence LaReva Berrey, 77, died on June 25, 1995 at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, following complications from a stroke. A resident of Carmel, since 1947, she had owned and operated Fortier's Drug Store in that city until her retirement four years ago. In addition to her membership in the California State Association of Pharmacists, over the years of her business and professional career she had been active in civic affairs, having served three terms as a memberof the board of directors of the Carmel Better Business Bureau. Also, she was a member of the City Council during the terms of three mayors of that city, including that council presided over by Clint Eastwood. Born in Montpelier on Aug. 22, 1917 to Adam Lamar and Julia LaReva Bissegger Berrey, she was educated in the Montpelier public school system, was graduated from Montpelier High School with the class of 1935. Prior to taking up residence in Carmel, she spent the war years in Salt Lake City employed as a salesperson with ZCMI and later with the Keith O'Brien Company. She is survived by three sisters; Ruth Walton and Gertrude Berrey of Montpelier and Mina Lorez of Salt Lake; three brothers John Henry of Pocatello, Milton J. of South Jordan and Garth of Salt Lake and many nieces and nephews. Besides her father and mother she was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Lamar and Richard Zane both of whom lost their lives in service for their country in 1945. Services will be held at the Mathews Mortuary at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Viewing will begin one hour prior to the services. Burial in Montpelier City Cemetery.
