John Nussbaum - Class of 1937

Impressive military services were held March 27, 1961 for M/Sgt. John J. Nussbaum at the beautiful Sierra Acres Cemetery in Sacramento, California. Memorial services for M/Sgt. Nussbaum and three other Air Force personnel who were killed in the tragic accident of an Air Force plane March 22, 1961 were held Sunday at the McClellan Air Force Chapel with full military honors. Two civilian technicians were also killed in the four engined C121 cargo plane they were testing. The plane crashed into a field 10 miles north of Marysville. Mr Nussbaum was born January 15, 1918 at Montpelier to John Jacob and Emilie A. Nussbaum. After the family moved to Pocatello, he spent most of his boyhood at the home of his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Marie Nussbaum and an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Lish in Montpelier. He attended grade and high school at Montpelier, graduating from Montpelier High School in 1937. He attended Idaho State College, Pocatello, one year before entering the service in 1939. With the exception of three years following World War II he has been in the Air Force as flight technician. He was performing his duty as flight engineer at the time of his death. Mr. Nussbaum and Mary Lee Jones of Montpelier were married December 20, 1945. One daughter, Jacqueline Lee, wsa born to the union. Besides his widow and daughter, one brother and three sisters survive.
