Keith Rich - Class of 1937

Keith Whittle Rich, 66, Montpelier, died Thursday, August 1, 1985, in the Bear Lake County Nursing Home following an extended illness. He was born April 8, 1919, in Paris, Idaho, to Stanley Hunter and Kathryn Whittle Rich.. He received his early education in Paris and Montpelier, graduating from Montpelier HIgh School in 1937. He graduated from the University of Utah where he was a member and business manager of the Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He later attended George Washington Law School in Washington, D.C. Before graduating from law school, he enlisted as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was discharged in 1945 as a second lieutenant. He had spent two years as a prisoner of war in Switzerland. He married VaLeen Evans Aug. 15, 1945, in Montpelier. A short time later, the marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They settled in Montpelier where he operated the Rich Motor Company for nearly 30 years. In the following years, he established and operated the Rich Investment Company. He was active in community affairs, having served as president and secretary of the Rotary Club, and he had become a Paul Harris Fellow. He was secretary for the Bear Lake County Hospital Board, past president of the Lions Club and past post commander of the local American Legion post. He was on the board of advisors of Mountain States Telephone Co. and had served several years on the city council and the school board in Bear Lake County. He sponsored a scholastic athletic scholarship at Bear Lake High School. He was a member of the LDS Church and had held several different positions during his lifetime. He is survived by his wife, Montpelier; three children, Stephen Rich and Cheri Rich Haws, both of Temple, Ariz.; Brent S. E. Rich, Seattle; five grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Gwen Sharpe, Montpelier. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held Monday at 1 PM in the Montpelier First Ward Chapel. Burial was in the Montpelier City Cemeter
