Douglas Beckwith - Class of 1940

Douglas Leonard Beckwith, 73, died April 12, 1995, in the Bear Lake County Skilled Care Facility following a long illness. He was born Nov. 17, 1921, to Edward Jay and Christina Rohner Beckwith in Montpelier. He Graduated from Montpelier High School in 1940. He married Gale Aland Sep. 25, 1940 in Pocatello and they were later divorced. Following high school he attended Idaho State for one year and then went in the Navy where he served in the Submarine Corps during World War II and then again during the Korean War. After the service he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad where he worked as a telegrapher until his retirement. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Doug is survived by four children, Marion Crawford of Danville, Va , Larry of Glasgow, Ky., Carma Mahon of Madison, W.V., and Bill of Kennesaw, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; and a close friend, Nina Jensen of Montpelier. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jay and Dick; an infant brother; and an infant sister. Graveside Services were held Wednesday, April 26, 1995 at 1 p.m. in the Montpelier Cemetery. Interment was in the Montpelier City Cemetery.
