Joyce Burgoyne (Slack Terry) - Class of 1946

Joyce Burgoyne Slack Terry passed away peacefully on May 12, 2011. Joyce was born to Sidney and Beatrice (Holmes) Burgoyne in Montpelier, Idaho on February 14, 1929. She attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah where she met Ben Lorenzo Slack of Toquerville, Utah. They were married in the Logan Temple on July 22, 1947. They moved to Arizona in 1952 where they spent the rest of their married life. Joyce and Ben were the parents of six children, Sidney (Vance) Lee, Sandra (Marc) Bunker, Laura (Robert) Foley, Thomas (Lee) Slack, Edwin (Susan) Slack and Renee (Layne) Garner. After Ben passed away in 1994, Joyce married a long time friend, Grant Terry in 1999 and they spent the next 5 years providing love, support and care for each other. Joyce treasured getting to know the Terry family. Grant passed away in 2004. Joyce stayed in Arizona until she moved in with her daughter Renee Garner in Toquerville, Utah in 2006. Joyce is preceded in death by her eternal companion, Ben Slack, her second husband, Grant Terry, her parents, and her brothers, Edward, Robert, and David. She is survived by her brothers, Roger and Rodney Burgoyne, six children, 37 grandchildren, and 73 great grandchildren. Joyce is remembered as a loving and devoted mother, dedicated to her family and a talented musician who with her husband, Ben, brought music and song into their family.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2011, at 10:00 am at the Toquerville LDS Chapel, 63 N. Toquer Blvd., Toquerville, UT. There will be a viewing held Friday, May 20, from 6:30-8:00 pm and also Saturday, one hour prior to services, both held at the Chapel. Interment will take place in the Toquerville Cemetery.
