In Memory

Shirley Whinham (Bartschi) - Class of 1945

Shirley Whinham Bartschi, age 87, passed away on Dec. 24, 2012, peacefully in Brigham City.

Shirley was born in Montpelier on Nov. 22, 1925 to James A. and Rosella Grunig Whinham. Shirley and her loving husband, Dean, were married July 7, 1944 in the Logan LDS Temple. Just a week later, Dean was sent to serve in World War II. Dean’s release from duty came in April 1946, and that was a very happy day for both of them!

Shirley and Dean began their married life in Sharon, Idaho, then later moved to Montpelier. In 1987, they moved to Cache Valley.

They held many positions in the LDS church. Shirley was a Primary teacher for 17 years. Dean and Shirley’s favorite position was serving in the Logan LDS Temple for 10 and a half years as ordinance workers.

Shirley was the proud mother of four daughters; Marilyn Lugtu, Providence, Janette Bartschi, Ogden, Susan and Les Bowman, North Salt Lake and Kathy and Doug Price, Brigham City. Shirley said her greatest calling in life was being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will never stop being a mother and we know that is a blessing that continues forever.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her four sisters, Lucile, Francis, Louise, and Virginia. Her younger brother, James Whinham, currently resides in Roy.

Shirley is survived by her very loving husband of 68 years, Dean and four daughters, two son-in-laws, eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank everyone who gave time and support to Shirley the last few years.
