Anne Oliver (Maddox) - Class of 1941

Anne Elva Oliver Maddox was born in Montpelier, Idaho, to Susie Winifred Crawford & Floyd Parker Oliver, Sr. on March 1, 1923. She passed away April 5, 2013, surrounded by family and loved ones due to complications of a stroke. She married J.M. Phelps in Paris, Idaho, they were later divorced. She married William R. Maddox, May 19, 1967. He preceded her in death on February 4, 1978.

She worked at the Utah State Training School and Tri City Dry Cleaners for several years. She was affectionately known as Grandma Anne to all who knew and loved her. She was the matriarch of five generations. Her true calling in life was caring for many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of the American Fork Community Presbyterian Church and especially enjoyed singing in the choir. She often spoke of the enjoyment she experienced at “coffee hour” on Sundays and doing brown bag lunches on Wednesdays with her friends from church. One of her greatest joys was her annual Christmas party with her whole family, including a visit from Santa.

She is survived by Toni (Mike) Ashenbrener, Val (Nila) Phelps, Judy (Edward) Steele, Gary (Tamara) Maddox, Jim (Lynne) Phelps, Larry Phelps, Lena Gean (Bob, deceased) Phelps, Joe (Melinda, deceased)Humes, 1 brother, Jiggs Oliver & 3 sisters, Ruth Tuescher, Bobbie Larsen, & Dodie Smith, 47grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren & 6 great-great grandchildren. Preceded in death by: grandson Arthur Turner, granddaughter Mindy Phelps, son Elder Bruce Maddox, husband Bill Maddox, brother Gene Oliver, sister Winnie Stewart, great grandson Emmett Phelps son Bob Phelps, and daughter Melinda Humes.

A viewing will be held Monday April 8, 2013, from 6-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to funeral services which will be held Tuesday April 9, 2013, at 12:00 p.m., at the Anderson & Sons Mortuary in American Fork. Interment will take place at Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers Mom would prefer donations may be made to the American Fork Community Presbyterian Church, stained glass window fund. The family wishes to thank the staff at American Fork Hospital who took exceptional care of Mom and provided support to our family during her final days.
