Norma Young (Ericksen Walton) - Class of 1939

Norma Young Ericksen Walton, 83, died Jan. 23, 2003, at Alcorn Rehab and Health Center, Baldwyn, MS.

Norma was born November 26, 1919, to Leonard K. and Ella Grace Kunz Young at Bear Lake, Idaho.

Norma was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had an unwavering testimony of Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world and lived her life accordingly. She filled many callings in the church and was a faithful visiting teacher. She served as a worker in the Los Angeles Temple. She had a beautiful soprano voice and sang in the church and the community.

Norma married Kenneth Ericksen in the Logan Temple on June 25, 1940. After school at USAC they moved to Overton, NV. While there they adopted a son Michael Kenneth in July 1945. Fifteen months later her husband Kenneth died. Norma and Michael then moved to California where she attended and graduated from Cal-State Long Beach. She was a retired professor at Fullerton College in California from 1961-1982. She was also a former cosmetology teacher and hairdresser Glendale, CA from 1945-1975.

After Michael's mission and marriage, she met and married Henry Dewain Walton in 1970. They moved to Hesperia, CA where they both held a number of church callings but Henry developed bad health and Norma suffered a stoke. Henry resided in a nursing home until his death in June 2001. In the interest of Norma's health, she went to MS to live with Michael and Riki where she received marvelous care until her death.

Survivors include: her son, Michael K. (Riki) Ericksen, Baldwyn, MS; a brother, Dennis Young, Buena Park, CA; four grandchildren, Allyson Ericksen, Vanessa Ericksen, Ryan (Candy) Ericksen, Steven (Mandy) Ericksen, great-grandchildren, Jessica Brigman, Dillan Ericksen, Madison Ericksen, Gracie Ericksen.  

Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, 12:00 noon at the Beaver Dam LDS Church, 16025 North Beaver Dam Road. Friends may call Saturday, February 1st from10:00 to 11:45 a.m. at the Church. Interment will be in the Beaver Dam Cemetery.
