Ramona Jensen (Lewis Compton) - Class of 1940

Ramona Genevieve Jensen Lewis Compton, 83, died peacefully on Sat., Dec. 25, 2004, her eighty-third birthday. She was a resident of Bear Lake Manor in Montpelier. She was born December 25, 1921. Ramona never lost her zest for life and sense of humor despite the pain she endured for many years due to chronic and increasingly difficult health problems. She loved much and was much loved. Ramona was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed serving in many positions, especially those involving music, drama and dance. She served in the Relief Society Presidency of her ward for many years and developed special friendships through this service. She worked in several Montpelier businesses and at the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital before opening a successful fabric and sewing machine store in her home. She loved selling Bernina sewing machines and giving instruction in their use. Ramona married Merrill N. Lewis from Dingle, in 1942. Merrill and a grandson preceded her in death. She later married Marama (Bud) Compton of South Weber, Utah, in 1995. 

Ramona is survived by her husband, Bud; a brother and sister, Richard Jensen of Bountiful, Utah, and Juanita Gray of Idaho Falls; her children, Kent Lewis of Salt Lake City, Utah, Merrillyn (Mark) Dover of Augusta, Ga., Kiera (Glen) Newbury of Peoria, Ariz., Bryce (Vickie) Lewis of Garden City, and Matt Lewis of Cedar City, Utah; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Jan. 3, at 11 a.m. in the Montpelier Stake Center on 340 North 5th Street in Montpelier. Friends may visit with family on Sun. afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. at Matthews Mortuary, 702 Clay Street in Montpelier and again on Mon. from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the chapel prior to services.
