Kathryn Grosjean (Hirschi) - Class of 1932

Funeral services were held Saturday, Mar 28, 1998, in the Afton Tabernacle. Interment was in the Afton Cemetery.

She was born May 18, 1914 in Montpelier, ID, the third child of Edward Carl and Lettie Philps Grosjean and she died May 24, 1998.

Educated in Montpelier schools, she graduated from high school as valedictorian and attended Idaho State University on scholarships. After graduation from ISU she taught school in Salmon and Geneva, ID. She met Hyrum Henry Hirschi of Geneva in 1934. They were married Sept 4, 1937. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.

Kathryn and Hy moved to Star Valley shortly thereafter where they spent the remainder of their lives and raised their family. Together, they owned and operated Hy's Sinclair Service, H&H Sporting Goods and Hirschi's Floral and Nursery.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions in the different auxiliaries. She was a member of the Afton Literary club and the Nacirena Club. Kathryn was well known for her beautiful floral arrangements and for the many years of service she gave to the people of Star Valley.

Talented and creative, Kathryn had a deep appreciation for art, culture and beauty. She and Hyrum were both accomplished dancers and had beautiful singing voices. They were very active in church and community choral groups.

Kathryn's most fulfilling role, however, was a mother and grand mother. She was very proud of her progeny and her greatest joys were in their accomplishments and happiness.

She is survived by her children, Mary Kay Daugherty, Forestville CA; Bonnie Jean Lindberg, Loveland CO; Rodney Hirschi, Eden UT; Colleen Brown, Allan Hirschi and Robert Hirschi all of Salt Lake City; 15 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; brother Phillip Grosjean, Afton and sisters Leanore Stoddard of Sacramento CA and Guinevere Boswell of Tustin CA.

She was preceded in death by a brother Dean, sister Geraldine, her parents and her beloved husband Hyrum.
