Russell Welker - Class of 1924

Russell R. Welker, 43. son of the late Ray Welker, and Elizabeth Welker, died at his home in Chowchilla, California February 24, 1949. He was born at the home of the late Bishop Amos Wright in Bennington, October 28, 1905. He grew to manhood in Montpelier, graduating from Montpelier High School in 1924 and later he attended the B. Y. U. at Provo where he received his degree. He continued his schooling for a master's degree at Stanford University, Palo Alto. A talented musician and highly esteemed educator, he headed the music department of Chowchilla High school for 15 years. Prior to that he taught two years at Lehi High school, Lehi, Utah. For the past three years he had been engaged in the insurance business at Chowchilla. On September. 18, 1930 he married Genevieve Quayle, daughter of the late William Quayle and Elizabeth Quayle Austin, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, Surviving besides his mother and widow are two brothers, Donald Welker, Montpelier, Wright Welker, Glendale, California; and two sisters, Mrs. Catharine Dauterman and Mrs. June Poulton, both of Salt Lake City.
