Cornelia Mumford (Sparks) - Class of 1919

Cornelia (Connie) Mumford Sparks, 70, a resident of Dingle and Montpelier nearly all her life died Sunday, July, 1970 in the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City following an illness of several weeks.  A daughter of Thomas M. and Mary Emily Wright Mumford, she was born May 1, 1900 in Salt Lake City.  When six years old the family moved to Montpelier where she attended elementary school and graduated from Montpelier High School.  An active member of the LDS Church she fulfilled a mission with headquarters in Denver.  She served as president of the Relief Society of the Dingle Ward and was president of Montpelier Stake YWMIA, a teacher and held other positions in auxiliary organizations.  She married Cottrell N. Sparks June 14, 1922 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  The family lived at Dingle until moving to Montpelier in 1937.  Besides her husband she is survived by four children and 21 grandchildren.  Funeral services were held in the Montpelier Third/Fifth Ward Chapel.  Burial was in the Montpelier Cemetery.
