Richard Layland - Class of 1969

Richard Wayne Layland died May 23, 1978 as a result of a forty foot fall while working as a steel rigger near Helper, Utah.  He was born January 25, 1951 to Robert L. and Ester Law Layland in Montpelier.  He was a member of the LDS Church.  He attended schools in Bear Lake Valley and graduated from Bear Lake High School in 1969.  He supported himself through two years of college at BYU in Provo.  He was an avid sportsman, athlete and naturalist.  He was also interested in mathematics, the fine arts and all outdoor sports.  He received national recognition in archery and piloted his own airplanes.  He was active in civic and community activities.  He is survived by his parents, one brother and three sisters.  Funeral services were held in Montpelier First/Fourth Ward Chapel.  Interment was in the Montpelier Cemetery.
