Jon Grandy - Class of 1972

Jon Drue Grandy 58, was born to Drue and June Paxton Grandy on November 27, 1953. He passed away from natural causes at his home in Idaho Falls on July 19.  He grew up in Paris, where he was a member of the LDS Church. He graduated from Bear Lake High School in 1972.

Utah State University is where Jon earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physics in 1976. While at USU, he joined the Air Force ROTC and served in the Air Force from 1976-1983. He earned the rank of Captain, received pilot training, and served as an electronic warfare officer and navigator on B-52 bombers. He served in California, North Dakota, and Texas where he received an honorable discharge.

After leaving the Air Force, Jon pursued his love for education at the University of Idaho where he earned a Master’s degree and PHD in Physics. Jon was then employed at Idaho National Laboratory as staff scientist and principal scientist. He was responsible for several product and process patents during his career at INL. He also published scientific papers and participated in scientific conferences around the world before retiring in October of last year.

Jon is survived by his mother June Grandy of Paris; brother Bill Grandy of Salt Lake City; sister Kristen (Michael) Payne of Chubbuck; and sister Karen (Craig) Hacking of Montpelier. Jon also has several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Drue Grandy; one brother Jim Collings; and one niece, McKenzie Williams, of Pocatello.

A graveside service will be held on July 25 at 10 a.m. at the Paris Cemetery. The family of Jon wishes to express thanks for all the many kind thoughts and acts that have been expressed.
