In Memory

Michael Kunz - Class of 1971

Michael Don Kunz, 58, passed away after a sudden illness at his home in Anchorage, Alaska, May 17. He was born May 25, 1953 in Montpelier to Don and Faye Kunz.

The family lived in Dingle, until they moved to Pocatello in 1972. Michael received his early education at the Dingle School and graduated from Bear Lake High School in 1971. Michael attended Idaho State Technological College and graduated with a degree in Drafting and Design in 1973.

Michael followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming an avid trapper, hunter, fisherman and marksman. He loved the mountains, streams and open spaces of Idaho which lead him to follow his lifelong dream of moving to Alaska in 1977 to explore new horizons. Many fishing and hunting trips were enjoyed with his Dad, Mom, nephews and friends.

At the time of his death, he was a head estimator for Veco Oil Company bidding multi-million dollar jobs. He was proud of the fact that he was successful in winning bids, many as far away as Russia, South America, in the lower 48 States and Alaska.

Michael is survived by his mother, Faye Kunz, of Montpelier; Daughters, Shelby (Thomas Odium, of Taylorsville, Utah; Brittany Kunz, of Anchorage, Alaska; sisters, Julie (Kim) Lester, of Carrollton, Texas; Debbie (Dan) Keetch, of Montpelier, Sally (Duane) Merrill, of Elko, Nevada; and six nephews and three nieces all of whom he loved dearly.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Don Kunz, and grandparents, Bartell and Edna Johnson and Roy and Jennie Kunz.

A private gathering of immediate family will be held at a later date. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. May God be with him till we meet again.
