Lowell Pendrey - Class of 1927

Alfred Lowell Pendrey, 95, of Montpelier passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2002 at the Bear Lake Memorial Nursing Home.  He was born May 30, 1907 in Paris to Daniel William and Lizzie Budge Pendrey.  He was the youngest of four children.  The family moved from Paris to Montpelier where his father owned a heating and plumbing business.  His father had established an outstanding reputation for the excellent work that he and his sons did for the people of Bear Lake.  He attended the "old" Montpelier High School where A. J. Winters was the principal.  Mr. Winters came to respect Lowell for his excellent scholastic achievements and they remained friends thereafter.  He bought his clothing, schoolbooks and paid his tuition the last two years of high school.  He made money operating the projectors at the local theaters.  During his high school days he was a librarian and manager of the school year book "Idamont".  His favorite subjects were chemistry, mathematics and drafting.  He graduated third highest in his class.  He was fascinated by the radio and built his own radio set, photography where he built his own dark room and film development.  He was capable at carpentry, metal work, plumbing and restoring old clocks.  He was intrigued by electricity which later became his life's work.  He attended Idaho State University and earned money in the cafeteria.  On June 2, 1936 he married Dora Bernice Davis in the Salt Lake Temple  After his marriage he taught elementary school in Montpelier,  In 1942 he moved his family to Redding, California to work for the Mountain Copper Company as an electrician.  He was a dedicated servant for the LDS Church.  He was responsible for the maintenance of machines in the wards and stake.   He is survived by two sons and six grandchildren.  Funeral services were held at the Fifth Ward Chapel in Montpelier.  Burial was in the Montpelier Cemetery.
