Funeral services for Vernon (Williams) Jewett. were held Tuesday in the Second ward chapel. The remains were brought here from Los Angeles, where he died August 9, 1939, of acute nephritis. Mr. Jewett was 20 years old, and was born in Montpelier where he lived most all of his life. He was a 1937 graduate of Montpelier High School where he was a member of the football squad. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Williams, and is survived by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John S. Jewett, with whom he made his home following the death of his parents. Other survivors are his sister, Mrs. Maud Smith of Pocatello, Jesse Williams of San Gabriel, California, Gene Williams of Salt Lake City, Russell Williams Davis of Montpelier, and Leslie Williams, who is in the Hawaiian Islands.Burial was in the Montpelier Cemetery.
