VanOrman Lindsay - Class of 1919

Dr. A. VanOrman Lindsay, 49, well known Utah surgeon died Sunday, January, 1950 at his residence in Midvale, Utah of acute coronary occlusion.  Dr. Lindsay, a former Montpelier resident where he was employed and where he graduated from Montpelier High School in 1919, was well known here and in various sections of Bear Lake County where he has many friends and relatives.  He was assistant clinical professor of surgery at the University of Utah.  He had been a member of the medical college since 1946.  He was also president of the medical staff at St. Mark's Hospital in 1947 and at the time of his death was a member of the hospital board of directors.  Born May 3, 1900 in Bennington, he was the son of Edwin R. and Christine VanOrman Lindsay.  He attended the University of Utah and later attended the University of Illinois Medical College where he received a medical degree in 1926.  After interning at St Mark's Hospital he began his medical practice in Midvale.  He was a member of the Midvale City Council for many years and was a thirty-second degree Mason and a Shriner.  He was married to Margaret Gaufin of Murray, Utah on September 14, 1936.  He was a member of the LDS Church.  He served with the US Army in 1942 and 1943 as captain in the medical corps.  Besides his widow he is survived by two sons and a daughter.  Funeral services were conducted in the Midvale First Ward Chapel.
