Kaye Cornwell - Class of 1943

Kaye James Cornwell, 28, was found dead of a .32 calibre automatic bullet wound last Thursday at about 9:30 PM, October 22, 1953 in the shoe repair shop on North 9th Street. He was born September, 12, 1925 in Montpelier, where he attended schools. He was a veteran of World War II.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. R. L. (Beverly) Curry, San Francisco, and Mrs. A. L. (Vistana) Welch of Bountiful, Utah. Services were held in the Matthews Mortuary chapel at 2 p. m. Tuesday, with Rev. Scott Bowman conducting. Max Haddock sang two selections, "Not Understood," and "My Task,' accompanied by Mrs. Lester Armatage. Post 63 American Legion held military rites at the graveside, with Eugene J. Grimes acting as sergeant at arms. E. B. Wuthrich and Floyd Bird were other members of the firing squad, and Richard Rowland and Phil Perkins acted as color bearers. Mr. Perkins sounded taps. Interment was in the Montpelier cemetery.
