Russell Stevens - Class of 1941

Russell A. Stevens, 24, became a storm victim in this area when he was asphyxiated sometime on a Sunday morning in February 1949 by carbon monoxide gas at Diamondville, Wyoming while getting chains on his stalled vehicle. He was a lifelong resident of Montpelier and had for the past two months been employed by the Union Pacific Railroad. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin E Stevens he was born September 7, 1924. He attended schools in Montpelier and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1941. He graduated from the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City in 1942. On August 10, 1943 he entered the Army Air Corps and was discharged on March 13, 1946. After being discharged he attended the Utah State Agricultural College in Logan for two years. Following this he became an employee of the Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the LDS Church and the Brotherhood Of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers. Besides his parents he is survived by three brothers. Services were held in the Second Ward LDS Chapel. Interment was in the Montpelier Cemetery.
