Beatrice Holmes (Burgoyne) - Class of 1915

Beatrice Holmes Burgoyne, 79, passed away October 31 at the home of her son, Roger D. Burgoyne, Tempe, Arizona where she had lived her last six weeks.  She was born in Montpelier September 24, 1897 to Joseph Hyrum Holmes and Sarah Elizabeth Hill Holmes.  She gave the salutatory address when she graduated from Montpelier High School in 1915.  Following graduation she served as secretary to the superintendent of Montpelier High School and then worked for a time as secretary for Mr. E. L. McClave of the Bear River Land Abstract Company.  She was married to Sidney E. Burgoyne on September 5, 1917 and they had six children.  She was a lifelong member of the LDS Church and served at various times in the Montpelier Third Ward Sunday School, Primary, Relief Society and the Young Womens Mutual Improvement Association.  She also served as a counselor in the Montpelier Stake Relief Society for over 10 years.  She was a member of the Mary Ann Burgoyne Chapter of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.  She enjoyed crocheting and crocheted more than 50 afghans for her children and grandchildren. Survived by six children and 36 grandchildren.  Services were held in the Montpelier Third-Fifth Ward Chapel.  Interment was in the Montpelier Cemetery.
