John Rigby - Class of 1925

John Rollin Rigby died August 13 at his home in Montpelier after a lingering illness. He was 81. He was born October 18, 1903 in Bern, Idaho to John Thomas and Eliza Rebecca Kunz Rigby. He lived in Bern until 1921 when his family moved to Montpelier. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1925 and served an LDS mission to Central States from 1927 to 1929 and then married Geneva Keller June 12, 1930 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He owned and operated a commercial dairy company in Montpelier for many years and later was employed from 1945-1969 as a car inspector for the Union Pacific Railroad. Until his death he also owned a farm in south Montpelier. Active in the church and community affairs, he was president and served on the Board of Directors of the Preston-Montpelier Irrigation Co. and was a scoutmaster and youth leader. He held many positions in the LDS Church including High Councilman, Bishopric Counselor, MIA Presidency and Sunday School Stake Board Member. His main avocation was fly fishing which he perfected with great skill. Survivors are his wife, six sons and 22 grandchildren. Services will be held at Montpelier First Ward. Interment will be in the Montpelier Cemetery.
