Donovan Stephens - Class of 1929

Donovan J. Stephens, 79, a lifelong resident of Montpelier died of a heart attack April 30 upon reaching the Bannock Regional Medical Center in Pocatello on the helicopter life flight helicopter from Montpelier.  He was born November 1, 1911 in Bennington and was the son of George E. and Emma Ruth Ipsen Stephens.  Don attended local schools and graduated from Montpelier High School.  On September 2, 1936 he married Geneva Wright at Bennington.  The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  Mr. Stephens worked for 40 years for the Union Pacific Railroad in the section unit as a brakeman and a conductor on freight trains.  He was a member of the LDS Church and served as a High Priest Group Leader.  He enjoyed horses, hunting, fishing and gardening.  He worked in his community  as secretary/treasurer for the fair board for 11 years and chairman in charge of the horse division for two years.  He belonged to the Montpelier Saddle Club for many years.  He served on the City Planning and Zoning board for three years.  He also donated to the schools and other worthy community projects.  Survivors include his wife, four daughters and six grandchildren.  Funeral services were in the Montpelier LDS Stake Center.  Interment was in the Bennington Cemetery.
