Ruth Butler (Spencer) - Class of 1939

Ruth Elizabeth Butler Spencer, 68, died at her Paris home Wednesday, January 3 following a lingering illness.  She was born June 6, 1921 in St Charles to David Edwin and Sarah Elizabeth Pugmire Butler.  She attended schools in Montpelier and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1939.  Following graduation she lived with her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Pugmire in St. Charles and she worked as an office girl for Dr. C.O. Moore in Paris.  She married John W. Spencer June 5, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they made their home in Paris.  She was an excellent cook and homemaker and active in all the LDS Church organizations having served in Relief Society, Primary, YWMIA and Sunday School.  She enjoyed doing genealogy, temple and name extraction work and compiling her and her husband's book of remembrance.  She and her husband served an 18 month mission in Holbrook, Arizona among the Navajo Indians ten years ago.  She is survived by six children and 28 grandchildren.  Funeral services were held in the Paris Stake Center.  Burial was in the Paris Cemetery.
