Dean Perkins - Class of 1946

Ivan Dean Perkins, 67, died at his home in Montpelier March 24, 1995 of an apparent heart attack.  He was born June 21, 1927 in Laketown to Ivan O. and Lula LaVern Earley.  He grew up in Dingle and Bennington and spent a majority of his summers working on the Nate Ranch at Crow Creek herding sheep and cows with his father.  He enlisted and served in World War II from August 1, 1945 until August 8, 1946 when he was honorably discharged.  He then remained in inactive service until January 8, 1963 at which time he received his honorable discharge.  He married Maurine Lewis of Dingle September 2, 1952.  He worked in the local mines and later hired on as a brakeman for the Union Pacific Railroad where he worked until losing a leg in a train accident.  He loved to hunt, fish and gather wood.  Dean is survived by his wife, two sons and five grandchildren.  Funeral services were held Monday, March 27 in the Montpelier First Ward LDS Chapel.  Burial was in Montpelier Cemetery.
