Donald Perkins - Class of 1929

Don Perkins died Monday afternoon November 9, 1998 at Ashley Manor in Boise.  He was 87 years old.  He was born in Montpelier April 1, 1911 to Harve and Gertie Perkins.  He spent his childhood helping his grandfather on his farm.  He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1929 and went on to Utah State University.  Don Worked for the state highway department for several years before hiring out on the Union Pacific Railroad in 1939.  For the next 37 years he worked for Union Pacific.  He retired as an engineer in 1976.  On August 23, 1946 he married Stella Villanova in Paris.  They built a beautiful log home in Montpelier.  He loved to travel and made a trip to Japan and cruises to Alaska and the Carribean.  In 1972 he moved to Pocatello when the UP terminal was removed from Montpelier.  When Stella passed he moved to Boise to be near his daughter.  He supported many charities including the Red Cross.  For this reason it was decided that no services would be held at his passing.  Instead a donation will be made to Life's Doors Hospice in Boise as a lasting memorial.
