Afton Cook (Hymas) - Class of 1938

Afton Cook Hymas, 79, passed away Thursday, August 27, 1998 at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City due to complications following heart surgery.  Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister was born February 9, 1919 in Dingle to Henry Samson and Ann Lanora Smedley Cook.  Her mother died shortly after she was born and she was raised by her grandmother in Montpelier.  On October 4, 1939 she married Marvin Hymas in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  Following their marriage they chose to raise their family on their dairy farm in Liberty.  She will also be remembered as a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed cooking, crocheting, cross-stitching and working in her flower garden.  As an active member of the LDS Church she served as ward Relief Society President, first counselor and secretary as well as serving in the stake Relief Society presidency.  She was also a Sunday School teacher and MiaMaid leader and enjoyed doing extractions in genealogy.  Afton is survived by five children and fourteen grandchildren.  Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 1 in the Liberty LDS Chapel.  Burial was in the Liberty Cemetery.
