Jerry Wright - Class of 1946

Gerald Grant (Jerry) Wright, 31, died suddenly of a coronary occlusion at 12 midnight, August 6, 1960, at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Grant Wright of Bennington. He was born in Bennington, October 28, 1928, at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M.B. Crane.

He attended Bennington elementary school and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1946 where he starred as a football player. Mr Wright engaged in farming at Bennington and also in construction, operating heavy equipment. He was seriously injured in a mining accident October 26, 1955, and had been in failing health since.

Mr. Wright and LaMoyne A. Sorenson were married in Montpelier on October 1, 1946. Besides his widow, he is survived by his parents, William Grant and Julie Elizabeth Crane Wright, presently of Bennington, two sisters, Winnie Mae Wright of Mountain Home, and Mrs. Orville (Beth) Reddington of Bliss, and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Crane.

Except for 18 months in Montpelier and a short while in Pocatello, Mr. Wright spent his entire life in Bennington. He was an elder in the LDS church, and served as Scoutmaster in the Montpelier Second LDS Ward while a resident there. He held the same position in the Bennington ward, as well as being a ward teacher, choir member, and counselor in the MIA superintendency. Energetic and devoted in everything he undertook, he was a talented vocalist and sang at many church, school and social functions.

Services were held at 1 p. m., Tuesday, in the Montpelier LDS Third-Fifth Ward Chapel with Bishop Wayne George of the Bennington Ward conducting. The opening song, "Oh My Father," was by a trio comprised of Philip Hulme, Max Haddock, and Eugene J. Grimes. Invocation, Paul Sorenson; obituary and remarks, Bishop George; vocal duet, "Invocation," Mrs. Reed Lowe and Max Haddock; speaker, A.J. Winters; vocal solo, "Forgotten," Mrs. Waldo Andersen; benediction, Ferris Hess. The prayer at home was offered by Arthur Sorenson. Lillas Swenson played prelude and postlude music.

Interment was in the Bennington cemetery and the grave was dedicated by President Lewis Munk. Active pallbearers were Mark Wuthrich, Dean Perkins, Warren Wright, Gordon Ipsen, Willard Swa and DeWayne Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Lynn Smith, Darrel Lindsay, Bryant Robison, Lynn Kunz and Dennis Burdick. Matthews Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
