In Memory

Carol Kunz (Howell) - Class of 1943

Carol Mary Kunz Howell, 89, passed away Jan. 14, 2015, in North Logan, Utah. She was born Nov. 19, 1925, in Bern, Idaho, to Parley Peter and Hilda Irene Stoor Kunz. She married Donovan Virgin Howell in the Salt Lake Temple on his birthday, Sept. 30, 1943. They built a home in Fish Haven, Idaho, where they raised their seven children. In 1998 they moved to North Logan, Utah.

Pioneer Valley Lodge became their home in 2010. Carol was active in the LDS Church, serving in all organizations, including Ward and Stake Primary President and Ward Relief Society President. She also served 18-month missions with her husband to West Africa (Nigeria), Singapore (India and Malaysia), Capetown, South Africa, and Bagnio in the Philippines. Following their missions, Donovan and Carol served 14 years in the Logan Temple. Carol had a love for quilting, putting puzzles together and cooking (especially homemade candy!). Carol worked side by side with Donovan in the Scouting program and both received the Silver Beaver award. She was the epitome of a gratitude attitude and one having a positive perspective. Every day was a celebration to her. She emulated joy and happiness.

Carol is survived by children David (Marcia), Mary Newman, Kenneth (Tammy), Janet Michaelson (Alan), Clayton (Joni), Susan Farrow (Ken), and James (Pam), her sisters LaRue Spencer, LaVaun Hansen, Naomi Kunz and Eva Berry, and brothers Dale Kunz, Paul Kunz, Phillip Kunz, Richard Kunz and Arthur Kunz. She has 40 grandchildren and 82 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donovan Virgin Howell, parents, sisters Fern Galloway and Geniel Smith and brother Owen Kunz, son-in-law Gary Newman and daughter-in-law Laurie Howell.

Funeral services will be at noon, Saturday, Jan. 17, at the St. Charles, Idaho Ward Chapel with viewing from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Allen Mortuary, 420 E. 1800 North in North Logan and at the St. Charles Church from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Saturday prior to the funeral.
